International Conference "Musicians & Monuments: Tracing Composer's Memorial Iconography Through the Ages"

The conference is hosted by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, close to the historical center of Vienna and the famous Stadtpark monuments. The opening ceremony (Thursday, 15 April) will take place in the Academy's Theatersaal (Sonnenfelsgasse 19), the sessions on Friday and Saturday (16-17 April) in the Academy's main building (Sitzungssaal,  Dr. Ignaz Seipl-Platz 2); for a map of the surroundings see http://www.oeaw.ac.at/kmf/kontakt.html.

Call for Editor of Acta Musicologica

Acta Musicologica: call for a new editor of the IMS journal that appears twice annually and is published by Baerenreiter Verlag in Kassel (Germany), to begin with number 1,  2011.
The International Musicological Society is searching for an experienced editor who would represent the discipline as a whole, broadly defined to include historical musicology as well as ethnomusicology, and ready to meet the challenge of this task. Articles are accepted in the five official languages of the Society, namely English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Experience in page layout and computer editing is not a condition, but would be highly desirable.
Compensation is limited to a modest flat-rate fee.
Proposals sent to the Secretary General <dorothea.baumann@ims-online.ch> should include a curriculum vitae and a statement of purpose.

The annual meeting of the IMS Study Group on Musical Iconography will be held for the first time in Southern Italy, in Lecce (Monastero degli Olivetani, site of the Dipartimento dei Beni delle Arti e della Storia ) and in Galatina. The conference is organized by the same Dipartimento dei Beni delle Arti e della Storia of the University of Salento in collaboration with the Comune di Galatina and Regione Puglia.

3rd International Conference Belgrade 19-21 Nov 2008 "Musical Folklore as a Vehicle?"

The Serbian Musicological Society, the Dept. of Musicology and the Dept. of Ethnomusicology of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade in cooperation with IMS are organizing the international conference "Musical Folklore as a vehicle?" (3rd conference of the Balkan countries together with IMS).


Call for proposal to host the next International Congress or International Symposia

In 2009 at the next IMS Congress in Amsterdam, the membership of the International Musicological Society will vote on proposals to host the International Congress in 2012. The Society requests proposals from organizations able to secure a site for the Congress and to take responsibility for all local arrangements. (The program committee constitutes a complementary entity: its chair is appointed by the Directorium of the Society.) The Society also requests proposals for Intercongressional Symposia which are rather smaller events and may take place every year. The next International Congress after 2012 is planned to be organized in 2017.
